Modify Your World: The Transition Home
The purpose of this two hour class is to help parents understand the importance of modifying their
home environment to aid their adopted or foster child in becoming more comfortable in their new
biracial home.  This class provides tools, ideas and strategies for parents’ success.

Into the World: Community
This two hour class is a great follow-up to Modify Your World: The Transition Home as it addresses
the importance of parents reaching out into the child’s community before they are even placed in
their home, locating resources and preparing for possible problems resulting from being a biracial
family.  This class will help parents anticipate these problems and find support.

Relative Racism
Parents often learn through adoption or fostering that members of their family may be
uncomfortable with people of different races and cultures. When this occurs, family members often
treat the children and family differently.  The goal of this two hour class is to help families develop
strategies to address racism in their families and when and how to protect their child from negative
comments and behaviors from extended family members.

Racism and Identity: Your child’s journey inward
The purpose of this three hour class is to discuss with parents the importance of a child’s identity
with their culture of origin and to educate parents on ways to integrate this culture into their daily
lives.  This class will also help parents see how racism influences a child’s sense of identity and the
importance of identifying with positive cultural role models and events.
