Assessment and Interviewing in Adoption  (Two hour workshop)
  • Techniques in interviewing while educating preparing families for international adoption.  
  • Get underneath the surface of adoption issues such as the role of the birth parent,
    institutional and foster care, culture, etc.

The “Nuts and Bolts”: Parenting for Attachment
  • Exploration of different parenting styles and the impact of each style on children with
    disrupted attachments
  • Discussion about why our children require unique approaches to parenting… that sometimes
    go “against the grain” of our instincts or other parenting methods
  • Keys to providing an environment where the attachment between children and parents can
    thrive
Please come prepared to challenge yourself and explore the intricacies of the attachment process.

facilitate adjustment into their family!

**The “Nuts and Bolts” class builds on the Impact of Trauma and Loss on Attachment, and they
compliment one another nicely.  They can be offered individually for half day or together as full day
training.

Being a Multi-Cultural Family
  • Look at what it means to be a minority in a dominant culture and how parents can honor a
    child’s heritage.
  • Talk about how to grapple with racial stereotypes, both positive and negative, and how those
    stereotypes are subtly interwoven into the fabric of our culture.
  • Explore issues of race and culture in a safe environment so as parents we can be better
    prepared for a new life as a multicultural family.

How to Talk So Kids Will Listen (Three hour workshop)***
  • Exploration of what happens to children when their feelings are denied
  • Specific skills that help children to cope with their negative feelings
  • Understand the importance of acknowledging children’s feelings
  • Understand the effects of punishment as a means of discipline and explore alternatives
  • Learn specific skills that enables parents to express strong disapproval and at the same time
    encourage responsible behavior

Class Descriptions
We are equipped to train large groups of 16 - 50 people.  Colorado Adoption
Consultants
also provides in-home training sessions for smaller groups of 10 - 15 people .  
We provide support services or "mini" classes for parent groups, church groups, play
groups, etc  and will travel throughout Colorado to hold group training sessions.
