Relative Racism

Parents often learn through adoption or fostering that members of their family may be
uncomfortable with people of different races that member sof their family may be
uncomfortable with people of different races and cultures.  When this occurs, friends
and family members often treat the children and family differently.

CORE Adoption Training

November 21st and 22nd

This sixteen hour class meets all State training
requirements for the CORE issues of adoption.

Culture, Race and Identity:  Adoption through the Lifespan
(2.5 hours)

October 21st, 6:30 - 9:00 PM

Please join us for group discussion of one adopted woman’s lifelong adoption journey
and her discovery of self.   The group discussion will focus on helping you understand
the value of culture, race and history in forming “true identity” in your adopted
children. We will also focus on how you, as parents, can more thoughtfully help your
child navigate through their lifelong experience of adoption.

CORE Adoption Training for Family
(3 hours)

This abbreviated CORE training class is offered to extended family members and friends
of adoptive families who desire a better understanding of the adoption
process and their role in the adoption.

Racism and Identity: Your Child's Journey Inward
(3 hours)

The purpose of this three hour class is to discuss with parents the importance of a
child's identity with their culture of origin and to educate parents on ways to integrate
this culture into their daily lives.  This class will also help parents see how racism
influences a child's sense of identity and the importance of identifying with positive
cultural role models.
